Critical Skills

Parents, so that you may be well informed and better able to understand your child's education,  you will find information on this page about the math and language arts critical skills that will be required learning for your child K-2. At right there are links to PDF files that will explain the  skills for each grade level required to advance to the next grade.

We also present to you the new grading system we have adopted.

West Jasper School District would like to announce the new upcoming Reading Program for the Kindergarten, First and Second grade students.  The new program is called Superkids from Rowland Reading Foundation and it includes Reading, Writing, Spelling, Phonics and much more.  The program focuses around a group of kids with whom our students can relate.  Our students will learn letters and sounds through songs and movement.  The program is research based and has shown great improvement in reading readiness and reading in the schools that use it.  So “kids” buckle up for a ride of your life with the “Superkids”  and Parents “hang on” as your child takes off in reading!

Along with the new Kindergarten, First and Second Grade Reading Program comes a new grading procedure.  The new grading procedure will ensure that every child becomes a successful reader.  Please look over the new grading procedure and help your child prepare for this new learning experience.
